I remember my first encounter with cloudberries; a friend, Astrid, brought back a jar of homemade cloudberry jam from her trip to northern Sweden. The golden color and the tart-sweet taste were unlike anything I’d ever experienced! It was a burst of sunshine in a jar, a reminder of the pristine beauty of the Arctic landscapes. This smoothie tries to capture that same feeling – a ray of light in a glass.
Cloudberries, also known as 'Arctic gold,' are packed with Vitamin C and antioxidants. They're notoriously difficult to cultivate, making them a prized ingredient in Nordic cuisine. If you can't find fresh or frozen cloudberries, don't worry! Cloudberry preserves or jam work beautifully in this recipe, adding a touch of authentic Nordic flavor. But keep in mind that the preserves will contain sugar and may alter the flavor of the smoothie so reduce the amount of honey accordingly.
This smoothie isn't just about the cloudberries, though. We're pairing them with other ingredients that complement their unique profile. The creamy yogurt provides a smooth base, while a hint of lemon juice brightens the flavors, and the honey adds a touch of sweetness. It's a balanced blend designed to awaken your senses and provide a nourishing boost. One thing to know is that I sometimes add a dash of ginger to spice it up a bit. I think you might enjoy this too.

📖 Instructions
First, gather all your ingredients. It makes everything so much easier when you dont have to run around at the last minute.
If using frozen cloudberries, let them thaw for about 5-10 minutes to make blending easier. If using cloudberry preserves, have them ready to measure.
Add the yogurt to your blender. This forms the creamy base of our smoothie.
Add the cloudberries (or cloudberry preserves) to the blender on top of the yogurt.
Squeeze the juice from half a lemon, removing any seeds, and add it to the blender. The lemon brightens the flavors.
Drizzle honey over the ingredients in the blender. Start with a smaller amount and adjust to your taste. Remember, cloudberry preserves are already sweet, so you might not need as much honey.
Pour in the milk (or milk alternative). This helps to thin the smoothie to your desired consistency.
Add the optional grated ginger, if you like a little kick. Just a small pinch will do!
Close the lid of your blender securely. Make sure its closed correctly before you press start.
Blend all the ingredients together until smooth and creamy. This usually takes about 30-60 seconds, depending on your blender.
If the smoothie is too thick, add a splash more milk and blend again. If it's too thin, add a few more cloudberries or a spoonful of yogurt.
Taste the smoothie and adjust the sweetness by adding more honey if needed. You can also add a bit more lemon juice for extra tang.
Pour the Cloudberry Clarity Smoothie into a glass. I like to use a tall glass to show off the beautiful color.
Garnish with a few fresh cloudberries (if you have them) or a sprig of mint for a pretty presentation. This is optional, of course.
Serve immediately and enjoy your refreshing and nutritious Cloudberry Clarity Smoothie! It's the perfect way to start your day or enjoy as a midday pick-me-up.
📝 Notes
Adjust honey to taste depending on the sweetness of your cloudberries or preserves.
For a thicker smoothie, use frozen fruit and less liquid.
If using cloudberry preserves, reduce honey accordingly.
